Because Afghanistan was so quickly taken over by the Taliban leaving the country in turmoil and an uncertain future in the early weeks of August 2021. For fear of their lives and the safety of their loved ones after the Taliban takeover, thousands of Afghan people were abruptly uprooted from the only country they have ever known. The United States military at the command of President Joe Biden, aided in evacuating almost 150k Afghan refugees and Americans from the Kabul airport amidst total chaos in a matter of a few short weeks and bringing them back to the US to live permanently as US citizens. The families will be placed in close to 60 different states and given the same standards of living and human rights as born citizens of the US have had all of our lives. They should be treated with decency and respect as they are human beings and many of them do not yet understand our way of life firsthand. They should not have to walk around in fear in the US and we should all set a good example of what its like to live a good life and to have to freedoms that many of us often take for granted. I can only hope that they quickly adapt to their new lives here in the US and are able to live among us in peace.
