Spam is often a salty, mildly-spicey pork product that comes in a peel capped can. The original recipe included chopped pork shoulder meat with ham, salt, water, sugar and sodium nitrite. In 2009, Hormel Foods added potato starch to the mix in an effort to eliminate the gelatin layer created by the cooking process. It proved to be a success. Spam is definitely an acquired taste but hey, I'll try anything once.
