The Sermon on the Mount is the famous sermon that Jesus gave on the Mount of Beatitudes located on the northwestern shore of the Sea of Galilee, between Capernaum and Gennesaret or (Ginosar).
The Sermon on the mount are the teachings of Jesus, which emphasizes his moral teaching found in the Gospel of Matthew chapters 5, 6, and 7. It is the first of the Five Discourses of Matthew and takes place relatively early in the Ministry of Jesus some time after he was baptized by John the Baptist and preached in Galilee.
The 8 Beatitudes
Matthew 5:3-10 describes Jesus' famous Sermon on the Mount, which contained what are known as the Beatitudes. Jesus sees the multitudes and goes up into the mountain, followed by his disciples as he sits down and begins to preach.
Jesus said:
1. Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
2. Blessed are they who mourn, for they will be comforted.
3. Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the land.
4. Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be satisfied.
5. Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.
6. Blessed are the clean of heart, for they will see God.
7. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.
8. Blessed are they who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
