The Lord's Prayer (also called the Our Father, Model Prayer or Pater Noster) is a highly revered Christian prayer which appears twice in the bible as recorded in the Gospels of Matthew 6, verses 9-13 and again in Luke chapter 11, verses 1 - 4.
The longer version was recorded in the Gospel of Matthew in the middle of The Sermon on the Mount, while the shorter version was recorded in the Gospel of Luke when "one of his disciples said to him, 'Lord, teach us to pray, as John taught his disciples.'
Jesus taught as the way to pray:
Jesus had just finished praying, when one of his disciples said to him, "Lord, teach us to pray, as John taught his disciples." He said to them, "When you pray, say Father, hallowed be thy name." (Luke 11:1-2)
Both versions of the Lord's Prayer are as follows:
Matthew 6:9-13
Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
Luke 11:1-4
Father, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come. Give us each day our daily bread and forgive us our sins, for we ourselves forgive everyone who is indebted to us and lead us not into temptation.
