I've traveled quite a bit throughout Europe and I love the Osprey Farpoint. (By far my personal favorite.)
I also own Swiss Gear (my 2nd choice), High Sierra and Mountaintop 40 liter hiking backpacks. Out of the four, my 3rd choice would be the Mountaintop 40 Liter Hiking Backpack for Outdoor Camping (Gray2) with the High Sierra travel backpack coming in at #4.
They all work really well and in the end it all comes down to your backpack fitting comfortably.
I'm 6'1 and 175 pounds, so depending on your weight and height, I would base my selections on those two factors. Trust me, you will suffer if you don't have the right kind of backpack and accessories during your travels.
I've had straps snap from backpacks completely breaking away from my shoulders or leave painful wear marks on my shoulders and waist due to poor or limited padding.
Always look for Travel backpacks with extra support straps and padding with plenty of pockets.

I once had a guy suggest that I purchase a backpack from http://www.minaal.com which can be used as a carry on as well, but have not had the opportunity to check them out or test it yet.
Be sure to follow my answers so that can give updates on the best luggage for travel.
Hope this helps and happy travels!
