I've been using makeup since I was 18 (I'm now 34 in 2018) and I can tell you from personal experience, that I've had my fair share of meltdowns over the years trying to find the right foundation for my overly pale skin.
Accompanied by a mild case of acne and some dry patches along my jawline, finding a good cover-up for those blemishes was not an easy task.
(Not an easy task at all!)
Because we all have different skin types, most make-up products will react differently depending or your skin type. For example, you have people with dry skin, combination skin and oily skin.
Your skin type determines how you care for your skin, so why should you choose your makeup any differently? Using the right base products can mean the difference between a face that holds up all day and concealer sliding off your face by noon.
I found when using certain foundations, they didn't cover my blemishes well enough.
When applying foundation, one of the best tips I can give you, is to let your moisturiser soak in well first. Give it at least ten minutes before you start doing your face. This means the foundation is far less likely to slide off during the day.
Because most make-up is not made for all skin types, you can not limit yourself to any one product. You have to experiment a little.
I learned that make-up brands tend to market only light to medium shades, which means you can usually find me frantically trying to buff away an orange jawline before running out the door every morning. (Ugh!)
To keep this answer simple and short, these are the foundations I found, that work best for me. I hope they work for you as well.
1. NARS All Day Luminous Powder Foundation: Good for combination and dry skin - around $75
2. Too Faced Born This Way Foundation - just under $50
It was long-lasting, and it hid my imperfections well.
3. Revlon PhotoReady Airbrush Effect:
At just under $10 I was very surprised and pleased at how well this worked for me. Definitely worth the money.
4. Covergirl Outlast Stay Fabulous 3-In-1 Foundation: Another gem at just under $8 bucs Will give you the golden tan finish
Lastly is what I call a diamond in the rough.
5. Maybelline Dream Velvet Foundation
I wasn't quite sure what to expect from this,
however, I was surprised at how much I liked the cool-toned velvet version (I used Porcelain Ivory; there's also Warm Porcelain). It took two seconds to apply. At just under $6 it's well worth the money.
